Job summary

A hospitality company in Cape Town is seeking an experienced Waiter/Bartender to provide excellent service. You'll be responsible for greeting guests, taking orders, and serving food and beverages while maintaining high service standards. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of experience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years serving experience in a hotel or restaurant environment.
  • Fluent in English; a second language is advantageous.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Greet guests warmly and present menus.
  • Inform guests of daily specials and any menu changes.
  • Suggest food and beverage options, upselling where appropriate.
  • Take and reconfirm orders accurately, noting special dietary requirements.
  • Serve food and beverages according to order sequence and service standards.
  • Observe guests to ensure satisfaction and promptly respond to additional requests.
  • Provide wine service, including correct opening and pouring at tableside.
  • Maintain proper dining etiquette by replenishing utensils, refilling glasses, and clearing courses.
  • Enter orders accurately on the POS system, including all special requests.
  • Coordinate effectively with fellow waiters, kitchen staff, and bar staff for smooth service.
  • Assist in other restaurant operations when needed (telephone, reservations, financial transactions).
  • Maintain good communication with the team about specials, stock availability, bookings, and events.
  • Stock and maintain side stations at par levels.
  • Assist with basic cleaning and setup tasks when required.
  • Handle payments, issue receipts, and return change accurately.
  • Print closing reports and drop cash with Front Office / Accounts.
  • Tally daily credit card settlements with the EDC machine closing report.
  • Close shifts correctly on the POS terminal.
  • Consistently adhere to grooming and appearance standards.
  • Display strong interpersonal skills and professional behavior.
  • Be willing to assist colleagues by filling in during staff shortages.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
