Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Viticulture Technician for on-site work in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will support the vineyard management team in ensuring healthy grapevines, from monitoring vine health to assisting with irrigation and canopy management.

Responsabilités

• Assist with vineyard management plans under the Viticulturist guidance.
• Perform regular field inspections for vine growth, health, and pest/disease signs.
• Apply approved pest/disease treatments following safety protocols.
• Assist irrigation scheduling and system checks to ensure water supply.
• Participate in canopy management like pruning and leaf removal.
• Collect data on vine performance, yield estimates, and fruit maturity.
• Operate and maintain vineyard machinery safely.
• Assist with harvest operations and quality control.
• Maintain accurate records of vineyard activities and inputs.
• Support sustainable and organic vineyard practices.

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious group of wine estates in the renowned Stellenbosch, Western Cape, ZA, is seeking a meticulous Viticulture Technician. This hands-on role supports the vineyard management team in ensuring the optimal growth and health of grapevines, leading to the production of exceptional wines. You will be involved in a wide range of vineyard activities, from monitoring vine health and implementing pest control measures to assisting with irrigation and canopy management. This position requires full-time, on-site dedication to the vineyards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of vineyard management plans under the guidance of the Viticulturist.
• Conduct regular field inspections to monitor vine growth, health, and identify any signs of pests or diseases.
• Apply approved treatments for pest and disease control, adhering to safety and environmental protocols.
• Assist with irrigation scheduling and system checks to ensure adequate water supply.
• Participate in canopy management activities such as pruning, shoot thinning, and leaf removal.
• Collect data on vine performance, yield estimations, and fruit maturity.
• Operate and maintain vineyard machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with harvest operations, including selective picking and quality control.
• Maintain accurate records of all vineyard activities and inputs.
• Support the vineyard team in implementing sustainable and organic practices.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Certificate in Viticulture, Horticulture, or a related agricultural field.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of practical experience working in vineyards.
• Good understanding of grapevine physiology and common viticultural practices.
• Knowledge of pest and disease identification and control methods.
• Familiarity with irrigation techniques and basic farm machinery operation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours during peak seasons (e.g., pruning, harvest).
• A passion for winemaking and a commitment to producing high-quality grapes.
