Job description

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides support in delivering school-based occupational therapy services to students across multiple states under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L). The COTA works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitor student progress, and promote participation and access to learning environments. This position requires proficiency in virtual school settings, technology-based documentation, and effective collaboration with staff across state lines and time zones.

Responsibilities
  • Provide interventions addressing fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, handwriting, self-care, and functional participation in school routines.
  • Support students’ access to learning through adaptive and assistive strategies as directed by the OTR/L.
  • Document student performance data and progress toward IEP goals, ensuring compliance with state and district policies.
  • Deliver services virtually as assigned, in accordance with documented student needs.
  • Monitor and report on student response to interventions for ongoing treatment planning.
  • Work collaboratively with OTR/L, special education staff, general educators, and related service providers.
  • Participate in virtual team meetings, IEP reviews, and consultation sessions as requested.
  • Communicate observations, student progress, and needs to supervising OT and school staff in a timely, professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of therapy sessions and student outcomes.
  • Utilize computer-based systems daily for student sessions, data tracking, progress monitoring, and service logs.
  • Support the integration of therapy data into school-based systems and digital platforms.
  • Comply with federal and state regulations governing OT/COTA supervision and practice in each assigned state.
  • Participate in supervision sessions as required by licensure regulations.
  • Maintain active COTA licensure in assigned states and adhere to all professional and ethical standards.
  • Establish a regular routine to keep current service time logs through team-established time tracking protocol.
  • Other duties or projects considered to be professionally relevant may be assigned.
Skills / Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current national certification (NBCOT) and active COTA licensure in applicable states (or eligibility to obtain multi-state licensure).
  • Minimum of 2 years of school-based or pediatric occupational therapy experience preferred.
  • Ability to establish a remote working environment that ensures student confidentiality and is free from distractions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide virtual services using telehealth platforms.
  • Strong skills in computer-based documentation systems and data organization.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Compensation
  • The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
