This is a Fixed Term role.

Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality vehicle operation through the following activities:

  • Perform quality driving and operational tasks in line with standards.
  • Conduct daily pre-use inspections and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain and clean the vehicle according to the scheduled plan.
  • Identify and report any unexpected technical issues requiring advanced support.
  • Communicate operational challenges to the Shift or Team Supervisor for resolution.
  • Ensure safe and proper functioning of all machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and suggest opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Use appropriate tools to complete assigned tasks effectively.
  • Assist with loading and unloading when required.
  • Drive the vehicle in accordance with load specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain safe following distances while operating the vehicle.
  • Report on task completion to the supervisor.
  • Receive and follow daily or weekly work instructions from the Shift or Team Supervisor.
  • Ensure clear understanding of assigned tasks and instructions.
  • Apply recognised work, driving, and safety standards consistently.
  • Report any injuries, unsafe conditions, or unsafe acts to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Complete tasks to the required quality standards and specifications.
  • Participate actively in weekly safety meetings.
  • Report any safety-related concerns or grievances to the Safety Representative or Supervisor.
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration among allocated support staff during task execution.
  • Communicate process-related issues to relevant team members or supervisors.
  • Assist engineering staff with vehicle maintenance as required.
  • Promote safety awareness by reinforcing work procedures and identifying unsafe practices.
  • Submit requisitions for required stock items in a timely and accurate manner
  • Compile clear and accurate shift reports

This role is at a Band 9 level reporting to the Engineering Foreman.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • Valid EB/Code 08, code 10 driver’s licence
  • Valid Code C1, C, driver’s licence
  • Public Drivers Permit
Experience, Technical knowledge skills
  • 3 years heavy vehicle driving experience.
  • VTS testing suitable grading.
  • Certified competent as a Utility Vehicle Operator
  • Applying safe driving techniques, such as maintaining a safe following distance and being aware of surroundings.
  • Traffic laws and regulations: Understanding and following all local, state, and federal traffic laws.
  • Hazardous material handling and loading skills: Safely transporting dangerous goods in compliance with all regulations (for specific roles).
  • Emergency response: Knowing how to react quickly and effectively in case of an accident or other emergency.
  • Good communication skills.
