Unit Production Manager Purpose of Role
To lead, plan, and control all production activities on the manufacturing line(s), ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operations that meet customer quality standards, maximize OEE, and align with plant strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Operations Management: Manage daily production activities across assigned lines, monitor production targets (cans per minute, output yield, uptime) and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and scrap, drive adherence to SOPs, QCPs, HIRA, and TPM standards for consistent product quality.
- Ensure effective line start‑up and shutdown protocols, especially after major maintenance or overhauls.
- Lead, coach, and develop Production Unit Leaders, Lead Operators, and line crews.
- Align team skills with training matrices, fostering multi‑skilling and capability growth.
- Drive a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct daily shift handovers and performance reviews with supervisors and operators.
- Safety, Quality & Compliance Champion: SHEQ compliance – OSH Act, SMETA, QCP controls, and plant HIRA requirements. Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and enforce safety standards (working at heights, chemical handling, lockout/tagout).
- Ensure quality checks are done as per QA protocols (lacquer integrity, print quality, neck dimensions, slug input compliance) and lead investigations of non‑conformances, customer complaints, and quality incidents.
- Performance & Continuous Improvement: Track and improve OEE, PONC, APQ losses, and yield. Lead TPM initiatives: 5S, SMED, One Point Lessons, and root cause analysis. Drive loss analysis workshops and implement improvement actions with mechanics and process technicians. Optimize line speed, reduce setup/changeover times, and implement preventative and opportunity maintenance strategies.
- Resource & Cost Management: Monitor variance on material usage and minimize waste, manage overtime, shift allocation, and workforce planning within budget. Contribute to CAPEX justifications for line upgrades, refurbishments, or new equipment. Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production volume & efficiency targets. Ensure compliance to quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Improve OEE year‑on‑year. Maintain PONC savings and cost reductions through continuous improvement. Build a competent, motivated, and disciplined production workforce.
Qualifications
- Degree / Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering or Production Management.
- 7–10 years' experience in high‑speed manufacturing (preferably aerosol, metals packaging, or FMCG). Strong knowledge of Monobloc equipment (Marl Herlan presses & neckers, Polytype printers, washers, ovens, trimmers).
- Proven track record in TPM, Lean, or ManEx frameworks.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing multi‑shift operations.
- Experience: 3 years electronics experience. Experience in an FMCG manufacturing Leadership & People Management Technical Problem‑Solving (mechanical, process, quality).
- Data‑Driven Decision Making (OEE, SRR, WACC, CAPEX ROI). Communication & Stakeholder Management. Strong SHEQ Mindset.
