The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems in underground mining. Its modular design and positional efficiency streamline drilling and cleaning cycles, driving improved productivity and profitability.

We are seeking a tough, disciplined, and experienced Underground Electrician to join our team at the Orkney Mine. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment in an underground mining environment, supporting reliable and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily underground work (you will go underground every shift), Electrical installations, fault-finding & breakdowns, Planned & preventive maintenance on underground equipment, Inspections and reporting, Mentoring and training of junior staff, Ensuring full compliance with safety and mine regulations.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in an underground mining environment.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and company procedures during electrical work.
  • Conduct electrical testing and calibration of equipment to maintain operational reliability.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams to support continuous operations and resolve electrical issues promptly.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergencies, providing quick and safe solutions to restore functionality.
  • Participate in risk assessments and contribute to improving electrical safety practices underground.
Qualifications & Skills Requirements
  • Valid Trade Certificate – Electrician (Red Seal / Section 13 / Artisan).
  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven underground experience (surface electricians will not be considered).
  • Clear criminal record (ITC and criminal checks will be conducted).
  • Medically fit for underground work.
  • Demonstrates good habits – sober, punctual, and reliable.
