Job summary

BSZAM - BRITS is seeking a qualified Fitter to provide mechanical maintenance and technical support for tyre-building operations at Brits. You will maintain machines, assist with setups, and support the technical team during size changes and breakdowns.

The role requires a SA trade certificate and at least 3 years post-trade experience in manufacturing; tyre-manufacturing exposure is advantageous. Shifts and OT may be required to ensure production efficiency.

Qualifications

• Qualified Fitter with a recognised South African trade certificate.
• Minimum 3 years’ post-trade experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in tyre-manufacturing is advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on tyre-building machines and associated equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise machine downtime.
• Assist with installation, adjustment, and alignment of machine components, guides, drums, and tooling.
• Read and interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, manuals, and machine-setup requirements.
• Assist the Technical team with problems identified during machine setup and trial production; ensure machines are ready before handover to Production.
• Carry out planned maintenance according to schedules and maintain maintenance records.
• Maintain good housekeeping in maintenance areas and comply with safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements.
• Work with Production, Quality, Technical and Engineering teams to resolve production-related problems.
• Participate in continuous improvement to reduce downtime and improve machine reliability.
