IntroductionWe are a leading freight and logistics company based in Gauteng and currently seeking an experienced Operations Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, implement and maintain operational activities of applicable contracts in accordance with company policies, goals, and strategic objectives.

Duties include : Monitor internal operational costs, fleet utilization, fleet downtime, and resources to achieve budgeting results and other financial criteria including PBIT, NWC (Net Working Capital).

Implement and monitor all operational activities to ensure compliance with operational protocols, legal, health, safety, and other regulatory requirements. Optimize routes and fleet utilization. Ensure achievement of agreed KPIs. Ensure all business sub-systems (Operations, Marketing, and Administration) are well coordinated. Ensure availability of fleet for preventative maintenance. Ensure preventative maintenance is executed to the required standard and in a timely manner. Maintain the company brand image. Ensure optimization and alignment of all resources, systems, and processes. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and authorization of the summary wage sheet. Implement the performance management process, learning and development process, succession process, and recruitment process to ensure continuous improvement in performance and relevant career progression. Ensure adherence to transformation plans through active involvement in recruitment, promotion, succession processes, and action plans. Prepare for disciplinary inquiries and grievances, ensuring consistent application in line with company processes and procedures through the involvement of HR. Create, monitor, and maintain a work environment conducive to embracing diversity, open communication, fairness, and consistency. Proactively involve in issues that could impact employee morale, retention, and performance. Implement and ensure effective employee engagement and communication on a continuous basis. Ensure document control process and templates are in place. Coach, mentor, and counsel direct reports towards continuous performance improvement and execution of the leadership promise. Conduct monthly Health Checks and facilitate a process to ensure improvement month on month. Actively lead by example regarding behavioral actions and ensure adherence to company values.

Monitor and facilitate correction of behavior of subordinates. Instill, monitor, and enforce a culture of risk awareness that supports action plan activities to eliminate risks. Ensure implementation of and adherence to risk protocols. Facilitate continuous performance improvement against operational key performance indicators through alignment of actual performance to targets. Ensure customer satisfaction through adherence to delivery plans and establishment of sound relationships with clients on an operational level. Support local corporate social investment projects in line with company plans and policies.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Matric / Grade 12. Relevant tertiary qualification in transportation / logistics / business management. Minimum four years' previous experience in a transport management environment. Computer literacy at an intermediate level (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Knowledge & Other Requirements

Knowledge of Monthly meetings as a tool of communication, Mixtelematics. Knowledge of the NBCRFLI main agreement. Knowledge of balanced scorecards process, IDPs, workforce planning, project management process, ISO, and RTMS system and audits. Driver's license and own personal vehicle. Able to work reasonable overtime as per operational requirements.
