Job summary

A mining company in Rustenburg seeks a Transactional Buying Team Lead to manage the buying department and oversee procurement processes. You will ensure efficient procurement in line with policies, supervise teams, and develop employees. The ideal candidate holds a relevant degree and has extensive purchasing experience, particularly in a mining environment.

Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of purchasing experience is essential.
  • 2-3 years experience on SAP (ARIBA) in a commercial/mining environment is essential.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To manage and oversee the transactional buying department and its employees. To participate in the procurement processes to ensure goods and services required are available in an efficient and effective manner whilst adhering to policies/procedures and setting targets for departmental achievement in line with the long‑term objectives of Impala Platinum

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • BCom / B-tech Degree/ Diploma in Logistics/Supply Chain/Finance is essential
  • CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) would be an advantage
  • 4‑5 Years Purchasing experience is essential
  • 2‑3 years experience on SAP (ARIBA) (Preferably within a commercial/mining environment) is essential
  • Knowledge of current economic indices and the Mining Charter
  • Sound knowledge of the product ranges typical to the mining industry

COMPETENCIES:

  • Basic understanding of legislation relevant to the mining industry, i.e. Labour legislation, Occupational Health and Safety Act etc.
  • Basic knowledge of contractual law would be an advantage

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • To deliver a service to all internal stakeholders regarding the full procurement process, off contract spend. (All CC and WBS spend as well as Capital spend below R10 million.)
  • To approve ad‑hoc orders placed by transactional buyers to ensure the suitable commercial processes have been applied and is in line with the Impala approval framework.
  • To Supervise Procurement activities to ensure that goods and services are procured as per customer requirements
  • To monitor performance of daily buyers to ensure that purchase orders are placed within predetermined service levels. (All POs placed within 7 days)
  • Compile and issue tender documentation (Scope of Work, Technical specs/drawings, etc.).
  • Shortlist potential vendors and invite to tender briefings (Conditions, plant visits, Scope of Work, Deadlines, etc.).
  • Evaluate and adjudicate tenders and recommend suitable Suppliers (in conjunction with adjudication committee).
  • Liaise between potential vendors and internal customers (plant visit to clarify SOW, etc.).
  • Award tenders (in conjunction with adjudication committee) and finalise Purchase Orders
  • To give preference to transformed suppliers where appropriate and encourage current suppliers to transform in compliance with the Mining Charter.
  • To develop and coach employees within the PTP department and training of end users
  • Oversee PILOG (STG) Training and measure compliance to ensure goods and services are coded.
  • To compile and oversee a full SAP ARIBA implementation plan for Transactional Buying.
  • Maintain and optimise communication between teams.
  • Analyse purchase requirements to determine value and risk of service or goods requested.
