Job summary

Ultra Personnel is seeking an experienced Artisan: Electrician to maintain electrical systems across pharmaceutical manufacturing, utilities, and facility infrastructure in Gauteng. The role focuses on safe, compliant operation, preventative and predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement to reliability and energy efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have trade-tested electrician status, GMP exposure, PLC/HMI experience, CMMS usage, and strong collaboration skills to support production

Qualifications

• Trade Tested Electrician with GMP exposure preferred.
• Experience in GMP-regulated facilities and pharmaceutical or FMCG manufacturing.
• Experience with electrical distribution, PLC and VSD systems, HVAC electrical controls.
• Experience with CMMS and energy efficiency initiatives.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect and maintain electrical infrastructure including switchgear, MCCs, motors and control panels.
• Execute preventative maintenance according to schedules and update records.
• Adhere to GMP, SOPs and engineering standards; support audits.
• Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults, perform corrective actions.
• Maintain electrical systems for HVAC, chillers, PUR water, generators.
• Assist with spare parts management and asset management.
• Identify energy-saving opportunities and support cost-reduction targets.
• Participate in continuous improvement and commissioning activities.

Job description

The Electrician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, inspection, testing, calibration support, and optimization of all electrical systems and equipment within the manufacturing, utilities, laboratories, warehousing, and facility infrastructure areas .

The incumbent ensures the safe, reliability, and compliant operation of electrical distribution systems, motor control centers, electrical panels, drives, instrumentation, HVAC electrical systems, generators, compressors, purified water systems, and GMP-critical infrastructure. The role supports compliance with GMP, SAHPRA, OHS Act, quality, safety, and operational requirements while ensuring maximum equipment reliability and plant availability.

The primary objective of the Artisan: Electrician is to ensure the safe, complaint, and uninterrupted operation of electrical systems through effective execution of preventative, predictive, corrective, and improvement maintenance activities. The role is responsible for maintaining electrical equipment in a validated and operational state, reducing downtime, supporting production schedules, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, reliability, quality, and energy efficiency.

Qualification & Experience Required :-

• Trade Tested Electrician is essential
• Wiremans license is an advantage

Key Job Outputs

Electrical Systems Maintenance

Operate, inspect and maintain electrical infrastructure, switchgear, MCCs, motors, drives and control panels. Conduct inspections and monitor equipment condition. Maintain operational records.

Preventative Maintenance

Execute preventative maintenance according to approved schedules. Inspect equipment, replace worn components and update maintenance records.

Compliance, GMP and Quality

Adhere to GMP, SOPs, engineering standards and statutory requirements. Complete documentation accurately and support audits.

Breakdown Maintenance and Repairs

Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults, repair electrical systems, perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Minimize utility downtime and production interruptions.

Utility System Compliance

Maintain electrical systems associated with HVAC, chillers, compressors, purified water systems, generators and facility infrastructure.

Spare Parts and Asset Management

Assist with management of critical spare parts inventory. Ensure proper use and care of tools and equipment. Recommend stock replenishment requirements. Support effective asset management practices.

Energy and Cost Optimisation

Monitor utility consumption and operating efficiencies. Identify energy-saving opportunities. Reduce utility losses and wastage. Support sustainability initiatives. Assist in achieving utility cost reduction targets.

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

Comply with OHS Act requirements and company safety procedures. Wear required PPE at all times. Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks. Report safety hazards, incidents and near misses immediately. Apply safe working practices and permit‑to‑work procedures. Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in accordance with 5S principles.

Continuous Improvement

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Support implementation of engineering and maintenance best practices. Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and reduce costs. Support implementation of engineering projects and technical improvements. Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements. Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
