Job summary

A machinery service provider is seeking a skilled technician in Sol Plaatje Local Municipality to maintain and repair farm machinery. The ideal candidate will have a Trade Test Certificate and at least 5 years of experience in the field. Responsibilities include performing diagnostics, repairing components, and conducting routine maintenance while ensuring high-quality workmanship in all tasks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience with tractors or agricultural machinery.
  • Proven expertise in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electronic and mechanical diagnostic tests on tractors.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts including engines and transmissions.
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as oil and filter changes.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding repairs and maintenance.
  • Provide recommendations on preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with workshop duties including inventory management.
  • Support and mentor junior technicians.

Job description
Role Purpose

To maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles by performing mechanical and electronic diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform electronic and mechanical diagnostic tests on tractors to identify faults and technical issues.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and hydraulic components.
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as oil and filter changes, lubrication, and belt adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding repairs, maintenance needs, and equipment condition.
  • Provide recommendations on preventative maintenance schedules and safe operating procedures.
  • Offer guidance on identifying and responding to potential equipment problems.
  • Assist with workshop duties including inventory management, organisation, and equipment cleaning.
  • Support and mentor junior technicians when required.
  • Attend relevant training sessions to stay up to date with the latest agricultural technologies and industry trends.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as directed.
