Job Description
Responsibilities
- Providing expert scrub assistance during surgical procedures adhering to the highest standards of aseptic technique and patient safety.
- Preparing and maintaining the operating room environment, including auditing and arranging surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.
- Collaborating with the surgical team—including surgeons, anesthetists and other nurses—to ensure seamless communication for efficient operations.
- Monitoring and maintaining a sterile environment to reduce infection risks.
- Supporting patients pre‑operatively and post‑operatively with compassion, professionalism and attentiveness.
- Assisting in patient positioning, surgical draping, and ensuring equipment is correctly set up before surgeries.
- Participating in debriefings and post‑operative assessments while contributing to quality improvements.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of patient care and surgical processes.
- Helping mentor, train and support junior staff and rotating team members within the operating theatre.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse qualification and current registration with the SANC.
- At least 2 years of experience in theatre nursing with a focus on scrub procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse patients, families and multidisciplinary teams; commitment to patient‑centered care while upholding policies of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.
