Responsibilities

• Providing expert scrub assistance during surgical procedures adhering to the highest standards of aseptic technique and patient safety.
• Preparing and maintaining the operating room environment, including auditing and arranging surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Collaborating with the surgical team—including surgeons, anesthetists and other nurses—to ensure seamless communication for efficient operations.
• Monitoring and maintaining a sterile environment to reduce infection risks.
• Supporting patients pre‑operatively and post‑operatively with compassion, professionalism and attentiveness.
• Assisting in patient positioning, surgical draping, and ensuring equipment is correctly set up before surgeries.
• Participating in debriefings and post‑operative assessments while contributing to quality improvements.
• Maintaining accurate documentation of patient care and surgical processes.
• Helping mentor, train and support junior staff and rotating team members within the operating theatre.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse qualification and current registration with the SANC.
• At least 2 years of experience in theatre nursing with a focus on scrub procedures.
