Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (third year or higher) in Accounting/Finance; Honours is a plus.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in accounting, admin, or financial analysis.
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles and high attention to detail.
  • Analytical, organized, and able to work independently under deadlines.
  • Effective communicator and collaborative team player.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Fluent in English; French beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, prepare, and file documentation for accounting and audit activities.
  • Support reconciliations, audit samples, and external auditor requests.
  • Reconcile AR/AP accounts and balance GL to sub-systems.
  • Process payments and reconcile supplier statements via ERP.
  • Collect IC invoices and documentation, accrue unprocessed items, and reconcile IC balances.
  • Ensure alignment between the GL and Fixed Asset/Lease sub-systems.
  • Prepare journals, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, and support month-end close.
  • Compile financial schedules and assist with ad hoc analysis and projects.
  • Support statutory and tax audit preparation.
  • Assist with internal controls (SOX) documentation and IFRS audit processes.

NOV is seeking a Temporary GL Accountant Assistant to support our Africa Accounting Shared Service team based in Cape Town. This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career accounting professional to gain hands‑on experience in a global organization while contributing to key accounting, audit, and reporting activities. In this role, you’ll support essential financial operations and month‑end processes across multiple African regions. You will play a key part in organizing documentation, maintaining reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data.

What You’ll Do
  • General Accounting Support
    • Gather, prepare, and file documentation for accounting and audit activities.
    • Support reconciliations, audit samples, and external auditor requests.
  • Accounts Receivable & Payable
    • Reconcile AR/AP accounts and balance GL to sub‑systems.
    • Process payments and reconcile supplier statements via ERP.
  • Intercompany Accounting
    • Collect IC invoices and documentation, accrue unprocessed items, and reconcile IC balances.
    • Support AP and assist with payment applications in the ERP.
  • Fixed Assets & Lease Accounting
    • Ensure alignment between the GL and Fixed Asset/Lease sub‑systems.
  • General Ledger & Month‑End Reporting
    • Prepare journals, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, and support month‑end close.
    • Compile financial schedules and assist with ad hoc analysis and projects.
  • Statutory Reporting & Compliance
    • Support statutory and tax audit preparation.
    • Assist with internal controls (SOX) documentation and IFRS audit processes.
