Job summary

Curro Durbanville seeks a Temp Class Assistant (Preschool) to support teachers and learners in a structured preschool setting. The role is part-time and duties include assisting with learning activities, managing classroom routines, and helping with admin tasks as needed.

Applicants should be studying towards a B Ed Foundation Phase and have relevant experience in a similar role. This is a temporary/contract position with a focus on supporting early childhood education during the January 2027

Responsibilities

• Work closely with phase and class teachers to support running of the phase and grade.
• Help create and maintain a positive, structured classroom atmosphere.
• Assist with planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities under teacher guidance.
• Support management of learner behaviour in line with school policies.
• Take responsibility for use, care and safekeeping of equipment and resources.
• Assist with organisation, supervision and promotion of sport and cultural activities.
• Support teachers and school with sport, co-curricular and admin duties as required.
• Provide general classroom and administrative support, including material prep and basic record-keeping.

Key performance areas

• Work closely with the phase and class teachers to support the effective running of the phase and grade.
• Help create and maintain a positive, structured and educational classroom atmosphere that supports teaching and learning.
• Assist with planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities under the guidance of the teacher.
• Support the management of learner behaviour in line with school policies and classroom routines.
• Take responsibility for the proper use, care and safekeeping of school equipment, resources and stock assigned to the class and teacher.
• Assist with the organisation, supervision and promotion of sport and cultural activities within the school.
• Support teachers and the school with sport, co-curricular and administrative duties as and when required.
• Provide general classroom and administrative support, including preparation of materials, basic record keeping and communication with learners where appropriate.
