Macdonald & Company partners with a property investment and asset management group to recruit a Technical Utilities Lead. This role focuses on owning utilities performance across a diverse portfolio, with emphasis on electricity and water consumption, metering accuracy, and cost management.
You will investigate anomalies, analyse data, and resolve wiring, metering, and billing issues while documenting single-line diagrams and maintaining accurate utility records for multiple assets.
Our client is an established property investment and asset management business with a diverse portfolio of commercial and mixed-use properties. They are looking for a technically capable professional who can take ownership of utilities management, identify inefficiencies and provide practical solutions that improve the accuracy, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their buildings.
The Technical Utilities Lead will be responsible for overseeing utilities across a mixed portfolio, with a strong focus on electricity and water consumption, metering accuracy and cost management. The role will involve investigating abnormal or high consumption, analysing utility data and identifying the root cause of variances, while also managing and resolving issues relating to remote metering systems, wiring, meters and billing. You will work with service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure meters are correctly configured and readings are accurate, investigate discrepancies and support the implementation of more efficient utilities solutions. The role will also require you to understand and accurately document building electrical systems, including producing correct single-line diagrams that clearly reflect the wiring and metering configuration of a building. Additional responsibilities will include monitoring utility accounts, validating invoices, identifying potential savings, investigating leaks or excessive consumption, supporting utility audits and ensuring that utilities-related infrastructure and records remain accurate and up to date.
The ideal candidate will have solid technical utilities experience within a property, facilities or building environment, with exposure to a varied portfolio rather than a single site. You will need proven experience investigating high consumption and abnormal utility usage, together with practical knowledge of a range of remote metering systems and the ability to diagnose and resolve wiring, metering and billing issues. You should be comfortable working hands-on with electrical systems and interpreting how a building's utilities infrastructure is connected. The ability to accurately produce a single-line diagram of a building's electrical wiring and metering configuration is essential and will be a key requirement for the role. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the confidence to engage with contractors, metering providers and internal stakeholders are also important for success in this position.
