Technical Sales Representative - Middle Market

Locatio n: Cape Town, Western Cape , South Afric a

A Technical Sales Representative position has become available in the WT Division within the Middle market industry, based in the Western Cape (Cape Town and surround ings ) .

Qualification s:

  • Degree or Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Chemistry/ Biochemistry / Microbiology / Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant technical sales experience with relevant tertiary chemical qualification, or 10 years relevant experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in a sales & service environment related to the general water treatment industry .
  • Experience in polymer application to solid/liquid separation will be an added advantage .

Applicants must have done all of the following to be considered;

  • Have dealt with customers on a direct contact basis
  • Have written service reports and discussed them in-depth with the customer
  • Have done internal service inspections of related equipment at customer’ sites
  • Have conducted site meetings/discussions with all levels of customers on site, - from Engineer to operator.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Account Management - Ensure sustainability and growth of a specific account/accounts by conducting the following activities in accordance with “The Buckman Way”.
  • Sales development into target market - Retain and expand business to grow sales and profit margins to achieve business objectives
  • Technical Services - Ensure existing applications and equipment are maintained and technical services are performed to ensure optimal performance;
  • Marketing support - Ensure that the sales efforts are aligned with Buckman marketing strategy
  • SHERQ Management - Maintain and improve SHERQ performance to deliver targeted sales at the lowest possible risk to the company.
  • Continuous Improvement and Project Management Support - Support the Account Manager in identifying, managing and implementing Continuous Improvements and Projects

Basic daily duties will include (but will not be limited to) the following ;

  • Accurate chemical application to cooling water systems, liquid solid separation, boiler water systems and other chemical application as required
  • Laboratory and on site chemical evaluation related to chemical performance in water systems and liquid solid separation
  • Accurate interpretation of water chemistry related to chemical application
  • 100% continuity of chemical supply, inclusive of deliveries and housekeeping.
  • Strict adherence/compliance with customer standards/required results, chemical and plant related.
  • Accurate budget and general administration

The successful candidate must be prepared to travel extensively, must be physically fit and able to work alone at physically challenging plants on surface . They will be a people-person, practically orientated, able to handle pressure, a problem solver and a team member who is self-motivated. They must be able to communicate at all levels, be organized and self-disciplined.


A driver’s license, computer literacy, basic proficiency in Microsoft packages and understanding of business systems is a necessity.

Work Place :

The position is for a Te chnical Sales Representative Western Cape (Cape Town and surroundings). The s uccessful candidate will be expected to reside or relocate to the Western Cape (Cape Town and surroundings) area to take up the position.
