Technical Sales Representative — Middle Market, WT Division

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

A Technical Sales Representative position has become available in the WT Division within the Middle Market industry, based in the Western Cape (Cape Town and surroundings).

Qualifications
  • Degree or Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Chemistry/ Biochemistry / Microbiology / Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant technical sales experience with relevant tertiary chemical qualification, or 10 years relevant experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in a sales & service environment related to the general water treatment industry.
  • Experience in polymer application to solid/liquid separation will be an added advantage.
Applicants must have done all of the following to be considered
  • Have dealt with customers on a direct contact basis
  • Have written service reports and discussed them in-depth with the customer
  • Have done internal service inspections of related equipment at customer sites
  • Have conducted site meetings/discussions with all levels of customers on site, from Engineer to operator
Responsibilities
  • Account Management – Ensure sustainability and growth of a specific account/accounts by conducting activities in accordance with “The Buckman Way”.
  • Sales development into target market – Retain and expand business to grow sales and profit margins to achieve business objectives.
  • Technical Services – Ensure existing applications and equipment are maintained and technical services are performed to ensure optimal performance.
  • Marketing support – Ensure that the sales efforts are aligned with Buckman marketing strategy.
  • SHERQ Management – Maintain and improve SHERQ performance to deliver targeted sales at the lowest possible risk to the company.
  • Continuous Improvement and Project Management Support – Support the Account Manager in identifying, managing and implementing Continuous Improvements and Projects.
Daily duties
  • Accurate chemical application to cooling water systems, liquid solid separation, boiler water systems and other chemical application as required.
  • Laboratory and on-site chemical evaluation related to chemical performance in water systems and liquid solid separation.
  • Accurate interpretation of water chemistry related to chemical application.
  • 100% continuity of chemical supply, inclusive of deliveries and housekeeping.
  • Strict adherence/compliance with customer standards/required results, chemical and plant related.
  • Accurate budget and general administration.
Other requirements

The successful candidate must be prepared to travel extensively, must be physically fit and able to work alone at physically challenging plants on surface. They will be a people-person, practically orientated, able to handle pressure, a problem solver and a team member who is self-motivated. They must be able to communicate at all levels, be organized and self-disciplined.

A driver’s license, computer literacy, basic proficiency in Microsoft packages and understanding of business systems is a necessity.

Work Place

The position is for a Technical Sales Representative in Western Cape (Cape Town and surroundings). The successful candidate will be expected to reside or relocate to the Western Cape (Cape Town and surroundings) area to take up the position.
