The Role: Technical Sales Representative (Internal Technical Sales and Branch Administrator)
This internal, office-based role supports the Durban branch through technical internal sales and daily administrative coordination. You will manage customer enquiries, prepare quotations, process orders, control stock and provide essential back‑office support to the sales team and branch manager. The role exists to ensure smooth branch operations, timely customer service and accurate technical and administrative execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide back‑office support for all internal and external sales activities.
- Assist customers nationally with technical enquiries via email, phone and in person.
- Prepare accurate quotations for pumps, spares, repairs, field services and systems.
- Read and understand pump graphs, bills of materials and technical drawings (training provided).
- Match competitor pump specifications and offer equivalent technical solutions.
- Manage the full sales process from enquiry to delivery and payment.
- Follow up proactively on quotations, orders and back orders.
- Process proforma invoices and support smooth order implementation.
- Support the branch manager and external sales team when required.
- Order local buy‑out products and assist with deliveries and collections.
- Maintain SharePoint documentation and lean boards daily.
- Contribute to business development through value‑added selling and upselling.
- Generate leads and identify new opportunities with existing and prospective customers.
- Support creditor administration by retrieving supplier quotes and processing purchase orders.
- Assist debtor management through payment follow‑ups and sending invoices and statements.
- Control and reconcile petty cash and prepare sales reports when requested.
- Manage documentation and assist walk‑in customers.
- Prepare spares and pumps for collection or delivery.
- Oversee Durban branch stock control, including ordering, stock counts and warehouse coordination.
- Source parts for non‑core and supplier items.
- Prepare marketing material and assist with office consumables and customer events.
- Uphold health and safety standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in achieving branch KPIs and perform any reasonable duties requested by management.
About You
- 2+ years of experience in internal technical sales, branch support, or a similar technical admin role.
- Experience working with technical products, ideally pumps or mechanical/industrial equipment.
- Ability to read technical drawings, bills of materials and pump graphs (or willingness to learn).
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle technical enquiries confidently.
- Proficient in preparing quotations, processing orders and coordinating sales administration.
- Highly organised, detail‑focused and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong follow‑up skills, proactive mindset and commitment to delivering accurate work.
- Comfortable working with stock control processes, supplier coordination and warehouse workflow.
- Computer‑literate with experience using internal systems, documentation platforms or ERP tools.
- A team player with a continuous improvement mindset and willingness to support branch operations end‑to‑end.
