Overview

Job Title: Technical Manager - Flooring

Type: Permanent

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Technical Sales & Specifications Engineer with a strong background in construction products, waterproofing systems, or related building materials. The ideal candidate will not only provide pre- and post-sales technical support but also apply products, troubleshoot site issues, and train customers and applicators. This role bridges sales and technical expertise, requiring someone who can translate product knowledge into practical, on-site solutions while strengthening client relationships.

You will work closely with Product Managers, Sales, and Quality Control, managing technical documentation, specifications, and guarantees, while leading the Technical Assistance Team to ensure technical excellence and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive technical sales support in collaboration with Sales, Product Managers, and Quality Control.
  • Deliver on-site technical and practical training to customers, applicators, technicians, and sales staff.
  • Conduct CPD presentations for architects and engineers, positioning the company as a thought leader.
  • Author, review, and sign off project-specific system specifications, method statements, and guarantees.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints by assessing application issues on-site and providing corrective action.
  • Develop and roll out Approved Applicator Training Programs and monthly public training seminars.
  • Collaborate with R&D to improve formulations and develop new products aligned with market demand.
  • Oversee implementation of QA/QC procedures, specifications, and guarantees.
  • Manage sample manufacturing for products and projects.
  • Provide technical support at trade events, expos, and seminars, strengthening distributor networks.
  • Liaise with construction regulation authorities and Corporate Technical Services to stay aligned with laws, standards, and global guidelines.
  • Lead and develop the Technical Assistance Team, ensuring high performance and technical capability.
  • Prepare regular technical reports and updates for management and HQ.
Requirements
  • Education: NQF Level 7 or higher in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Building Science, or related qualification.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction products or building materials.
    • Hands-on experience in product application, site inspections, and customer training is essential.
    • Minimum 3 years in a management or senior technical sales role.
  • Skills:
    • Proven ability to train applicators and resolve technical issues on-site.
    • Strong sales orientation with a customer-focused mindset.
    • AutoCAD (intermediate proficiency) advantageous.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, R&D, and Quality Control.
