Job summary

A leading cosmetics company in Johannesburg is seeking a candidate to assist in product development and quality tasks for skincare and cosmetic products. Responsibilities include supporting production, managing documentation, and liaising with suppliers. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Cosmetic Science and familiarity with regulatory compliance. This role offers a negotiable salary package based on experience.

  • Previous experience in New Product Development (NPD) is preferred but not essential.

Job description
Minimum requirements for the role:
  • A Diploma or Degree in Cosmetic Science or related qual or a Coschem certification is preferred for the role.
  • The successful candidate should have a basic understanding of cosmetic product development processes (without a primary focus on formulation).
  • Regulatory Compliance short course or training would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 : 2015 and ISO 22716 (Cosmetic GMP) standards is preferred.
  • Basic laboratory or sample blending experience (e.g., mixing or sample preparation) is essential for the role.
  • Previous experience having worked in a New Product Development (NPD) role within the cosmetics, fragrance, or personal care or related industries is preferred but not essential as the company will consider a sciences graduate with no work experience for the role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Assisting with formulation, production, and quality-related tasks to ensure that all skincare and cosmetic products are manufactured efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. The role will involve supporting the technical and production teams in day-to-day operations, documentation, testing, and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and cosmetic regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating and managing documentation, specifications, and product data across suppliers and internal departments.
  • Supporting product development through documentation control, sample tracking, and specification updates.
  • Assisting in the preparation, mixing, and evaluation of products as required.
  • Maintaining accurate records of formulations, regulatory information, certificates, and product compliance documentation.
  • Liaising with suppliers for raw material and packaging information, samples, and quotations.
  • Supporting audits and documentation requirements relating to ISO 9001 : 2015 and ISO 22716 (Cosmetic GMP).
  • Performing general administrative tasks related to the Quality Management system, product development, technical documentation, and compliance.
  • Assisting with sourcing and evaluating raw materials and packaging for new or improved formulations.
