A leading wine producer in Paarl is seeking a Team Leader for white wine. You'll oversee all white wine-related cellar activities, ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety regulations. Ideal candidates should possess a Grade 12 qualification, supervisory experience in winemaking, and technical knowledge of the winemaking process. Qualifications

  • 1 - 3 years Supervisory experience in winemaking.
  • 3 years’ experience in a winemaking process.
  • Knowledge of different quality systems (HACCP, BRC, IPW, Wieta, ISO).
  • Technical knowledge of winemaking and machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with Winemakers in the planning of cellar activities.
  • Ensure all Cellar activities are executed according to work procedure and Company policy.
  • Distribute work-related tasks and follow up on completion.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping and adherence to safety principles.

Team Leader: White Wine REF: TLWW1014
Job grade: 10
Division: Operations
Department: Wine Cellar
Reporting to: Senior Winemaker – White Wine
Location: Paarl

Purpose: Ensure all white wine-related cellar activities, including MCC, are completed by ensuring the tasks are distributed, executed and performed according to the Company policies and procedures. Ensure all actions are executed in order for the wines to meet the requirements as per wine specifications according to quality, style and price point. The incumbent is responsible for and will continually strive to ensure that only food safe, quality products and services that meets all applicable standards and requirements (legal, regulatory and client), are supplied with integrity.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • 1 - 3 years Supervisory experience
  • 3 years’ experience in a winemaking process
  • Min of SKOP 3, SKOP 4 would be advantageous
  • Computer skills( previous exposure to SAP would be advantageous)
  • Knowledge of different quality systems ( HACCP, BRC, IPW, Wieta, ISO)
  • Technical knowledge of wine making and machinery

Job Summary:
  • Participate with Winemakers in the planning of cellar activities.
  • Ensure all Cellar activities are executed according to work procedure and Company policy. This is done by ensuring:
  • Distribution of work-related tasks
  • Employees have clear and specific guidelines to perform their role
  • Follow up on all work orders and ensure completion thereof
  • Samples are submitted
  • Follow up on analysis to ensure SO2’s, DO’s and CO2’s levels are according to the Winemaker guidelines/ specification
  • High standards of housekeeping is maintained
  • Offloading of wines is carried out as per procedure.
  • Adhere to administrative tasks linked to the role e.g. samples and Kronos
  • Following up on analysis and ensure further adjustments are made.
  • Proactively address any wines that have been ullaged for too long.
  • Organise transport for casual staff as required
  • Responsible for coordinating and leading the MDWT meeting.
  • Ensure adherence to 5S principles
  • Creating of Maintenance Work orders on SAP and following up on whether work orders was completed.
  • Ensure the chemical store room is managed effectively with sufficient levels of the production material (chemicals, gases or other requisites.)
  • Ensure that a Safety Toolbox talk is logged in MDWT at least once a month.
  • Ensure Health and safety principles are applied and adhered to
  • Have regular team or one-on-one meetings with direct reports
  • Conduct performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Recruit and select direct reports. Implement training and development initiatives and align with succession or individual development plans. Reprimand and discipline direct reports
  • Create an environment for questioning, risk-taking, improvement and knowledge sharing
