Team Leader - Fund Accounting (Traditional and Hedge)
The primary responsibility for this position is to manage teams of Fund Accountants who perform the accounting and administration of all South African priced funds including Unit Trusts, Priced Pooled, Priced Segregated, and South African Hedge Funds.
- Manage staff and assist with operational issues.
- Review staff work; ensure processes are followed and standards are adhered to.
- Oversee projects aimed at improving processes within Fund Accounting.
- Handle client & audit queries, ensuring accurate calculation of fund valuations including NAVs and accounting to TB.
- Communicate and answer any queries on the funds from the team.
- Manage the output of the team according to the daily production schedule.
- Perform valuation quality assurance reviews and ensure consistent quality of output.
- Document all processes, checklists and controls within the team.
- Monitor and manage the performance of the team and individual members; set KPIs and develop staff.
- Implement projects, checks and controls to mitigate risk.
- Manage staff in taking on new funds allocated.
- Participate and lead training applicable for the team.
- Monitor and delegate to ensure reconciliations in fund accounting are clear.
Qualifications
- An accounting qualification (minimum B or equivalent) together with either 3 years accounting experience or at least 6 months Fund Accounting experience.
- 24 months + Fund Accounting experience in asset management portfolio administration and pricing.
- Experience with various fund types locally or internationally.
- Advanced level experience in using Excel, InvestOne and other related systems.
- Proven competence and an aptitude for working with systems.
- Detailed understanding of funds and fee structures.
- Previous experience in supervising a team and conducting colleague reviews.
- Previous experience dealing with clients.
- Previous experience mentoring junior and new staff.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Confident, enthusiastic and self‑motivated.
- A track record of achievement.
