Job Overview

The primary role of a TCS Field Installation Technician is to prepare installation sites, physically install toll system equipment, and carry out configuration, calibration, and testing of the equipment. The role is also responsible for troubleshooting any problems that arise during the installation process and providing support to the operator throughout the installation process. Following performance verification and commissioning, they are also responsible for implementing handover procedures and/or maintenance processes. The primary focus is on procurement, installations, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, customer interaction, health and safety, and documentation.

Education
  • Grade 12
  • Electronic / electrical engineering qualification OR similar tertiary qualification
  • Valid unendorsed code 08 drivers licence
Experience
  • At least 5 years related experience and good knowledge of the health and safety act
  • Experience in electronic toll collection systems and IT environment
  • Experience in hardware installations and upgrades for complex projects

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install AVC components: cut/ seal road surface, install treadles and loops, sensors, infra‑red equipment, enclosure, battery charger, UPS, and terminate all cables.
  • Test AVC pads, receipt printer, swipe card reader, traffic light, fare display, CCTV cameras, OHLS, entrance/exit booms, TCT, lane controller unit, intercom system, and electrical cabling.
  • Ensure all equipment is functional, properly connected, and labelled; perform quality checks and documentation.
  • Maintain safety protocols, wear PPE, and comply with the Health and Safety Act.
  • Prepare accurate documentation: forms, logs, handover records.
  • Support installation manager and project manager with structured plans, timelines, and communication.
  • Assist contractors and other stakeholders as required.
  • Train maintenance technicians and perform resident technician duties when needed.
