Job description
Tax Lead and LEFIM Southern Africa

Main Purpose

Responsible for operations and compliance in the area of taxation and ensuring internal controls as per global and local guidelines – processes audit and control system.


The jobholder is responsible for all legal entity financial topics for Southern Africa (e.g., planning and forecasting processes) and ensures proper local implementation of key corporate processes, directives and functions.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities


  • Ensure compliance with all local tax laws in the area of Corporate taxes and VAT tax payments, tax return submissions in addition to Bayer Global guidelines and KPIs such as Effective tax rate and BKA reporting.

  • Identify tax risks and implement mitigation procedures in addition to performing all tax calculations for accounting and audit purposes.

  • Liaise with tax authorities, tax advisors including transfer price offices.

  • Train business group representatives on VAT and import duty issues.

  • Support tax audits and tax litigation including related risk management; manage and support transfer pricing.

  • Tax planning and preparation of annual tax returns, provisional tax payments.

  • Support the development and implementation of directives / guidelines / SOPs in coordination with function area responsible; scrutinise internal control system and processes to identify control weaknesses, suggest and develop control measures, supervise / follow up implementation and conduct walk-throughs.

  • Perform ad-hoc internal audits / forensic audits / complaints through the "fraud line".

  • Assist with corporate internal audits and statutory audits.


LEFIM


  • Perform short-term planning, forecasting and recording / documentation of Legal Entity Financials.

  • Prepare local LE income statement and consolidation for tax forecast and transfer pricing.

  • Prepare local LE cash flow for liquidity planning and impairment testing; prepare necessary financials for exposure planning.

  • Ensure compliant and timely delivery to global systems (e.g., data.one, CoFiPot, BayTC).

  • Ensure data integrity and error corrections.

  • Support external reporting to authorities.

  • Comply with Bayer standard Financial Steering process and timelines (divisional & non-divisional).

  • Operational implementation and change management of defined planning process and tools.

  • Responsible for local governance of intercompany transactions and intercompany contracts.

  • Ensure compliance with IOS relevant activities concerning legal entity relevant processes.


Key Working Relations


  • Contact with Divisional Finance Managers for transaction details, explanations, supporting documents, etc.

  • Train BG personnel / central services on tax requirements – VAT and import dates.

  • Transfer price offices of Bayer Group.

  • Tax authorities and tax advisors.

  • Internal and external auditors.

  • Business Process Auditor.

  • CFO.


Qualifications & Competencies


  • Qualification : CA(SA) with specialisation in the field of Taxation.

  • Experience : 5–8 years of relevant tax experience.

  • Experience in working with tax authorities.

  • Attention to fine detail in applying tax knowledge / analyzing facts and tax law.

  • Project Management – time-bound projects with stakeholder management.

  • Recognise problem situations and make suggestions to solve this in difficult / confidential situations.

  • Ability to cope with stress and unusual / difficult situations and not lose control, meet deadlines, maintain professional independence, adapt to new methods and techniques.

  • Ability to work in teams as well as alone.

  • Good presentation and communication skills.
