Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking a seasoned tax professional to supervise and guide the tax department, ensuring accurate preparation of returns for individuals, companies and trusts. You will lead SAIT learner training, manage deadlines, and liaise with SARS on queries and certifications.

The role requires strong attention to detail, leadership, and extensive knowledge of Income Tax, VAT, PAYE and tax compliance processes, with a focus on accurate reporting and client service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support tax department staff, including overseeing SAIT learner training.
  • Prepare and review tax calculations and returns for individuals, companies, and trusts.
  • Manage provisional and income tax filings, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Oversee tax objections and appeals, including drafting objections, appeals, and complaints to SARS and the Tax Ombud.
  • Liaise with SARS for tax queries, banking details updates, and handling correspondence.
  • Administer and maintain e-filing profiles for clients and handle tax compliance documentation.
  • Manage registrations for Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, and other tax types.
  • Process applications for reduced assessments, tax clearance certificates, and directives.
  • Provide clients with tax advice and respond to queries via email or phone.
  • Maintain the tax database and handle invoicing.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies, including the System of Quality Management and the Employee Code of Conduct (including: SAICA, IRBA and IESBA).
  • Perform procedures for onboarding new clients.

Job description

  • Experience in a tax environment is essential, legal experience highly advantageous.
  • Registered Tax Practitioner or eligibility to be registered (Highly advantageous).

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of tax compliance processes and tax law interpretation.
