Overview

Job Summary: Responsible for all Drivers, Runners and vehicles, as well as efficient route planning and coordination of collections.

Responsibilities
  • Management of the vehicle tracking system
  • Daily tracking of vehicles to ensure that we follow the best possible route
  • Efficient route planning, using the vehicle management route optimization system
  • Responsible for coordinating collections with Drivers and Runners
  • Ensure vehicles leave the yard no later than 15 minutes after their shift has commenced
  • Provide daily collection schedules from the vehicle management system and amend when required on the applicable system
  • Schedule / reschedule or cancel collections on the vehicle management system when applicable
  • Ensure vehicles offload timeously, to minimize turnaround times (at the sites and MRFs) and improve productivity
  • P ereodic personnel management
  • Ensure that staff members work productively and efficiently, as stipulated in their job description
  • Conduct monthly team meetings with Drivers and Runners
  • Ensure that staff members wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ensure employees clock in and clock out daily
  • Confirm that the attendance registers are signed by staff when required
  • Effective management and appointment of casual staff in the transport department
  • Assist Drivers in completing accident and damage report as per the company SOPs
  • Ensure all Drivers offload their materials at the end of each shift
  • Ensure all data collection processes are adhered to
  • Management of vehicles
  • Ensure that vehicle inspections are carried out daily and report any defects to the National Transport Manager
  • Conduct inspections on the vehicle tyre pressure weekly
  • Complete the electronic inspection sheet when conducting inspections
  • Inspect all vehicles and trailers once per month
  • Update the GPS ODO reading weekly with vehicle ODO reading
  • Ensure that vehicles are serviced on time, as per service intervals, and plan accordingly to minimize the impact on operations
  • Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy before they leave the yard
  • Ensure vehicles are delivered on time to the relevant service providers for repairs
  • Manifest management
  • Print out a manifest pack for each Driver and issue this to them
  • Ensure that all manifests are received, completed, and handed over to the relevant person
  • Comply with Manifest application usage for all vehicles
  • Payroll
  • Follow up on and complete leave forms when requested
  • Verify remaining leave amounts with HR
  • Ensure all leave forms are sent to HR before concluding payroll
  • Ensure employee transfers are done before concluding payroll
  • SHEQ responsibilities
  • Update all staff on all legislation, rules and responsibilities as prescribed in the company’s COVID-19 SOP
  • Validate Drivers and Runners medicals
  • Book and plan inductions on various sites as required
  • Complete breathalyzing tests upon staff arrival for shift and conduct random checks throughout the shift
  • Confirm that the breathalyzer registers are signed
  • Ensure staff SOPs and SWP are valid and in place when being used
  • Ensure the Drivers and Runners clean their vehicles daily
  • Handle injuries on duty and report as prescribed by the company IOD policy
  • Action corrective or preventative procedures when an IOD takes place
  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are investigated and reported, and that preventative action is taken to avoid further incidents or accidents
Requirements
  • Matric / grade 12, a relevant degree / diploma will be highly advantageous
  • Must be willing to work day shift or night shift, in accordance with a monthly roster
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a similar role
  • Valid drivers license with own reliable transport preferable
  • Must be well presented, professional and have excellent communication skills
  • Employment will be implemented in accordance with the Employment Equity Act.
