Role Purpose

Utilise actuarial skills to assist the business to price medical scheme solutions for an open medical scheme and use projection models to estimate outstanding claims and to ensure sustainability by monitoring experience, while regularly maintaining the components of the models used for future projections.

Requirements
  • Degree in Actuarial Science
  • Honours Degree in Actuarial Science (preferred)
  • Good progress in actuarial exams (close to completed A level exam)
  • Completed or attempted A and F or F level exams (preferred)
  • 5 years' relevant experience
  • Relevant pricing experience
  • Healthcare pricing and / or benefit design (would be beneficial)
  • Proficiency in standard business packages – e.g., Excel
  • Proficiency in SQL and VBA (preferred)
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Annual pricing of the medical scheme solution for a large open medical scheme client, including competitive pricing against competitors.
  • Maintaining processes to estimate outstanding claims (IBNR) and monitor current projected experience against budgeted figures and proactively identify and alert business to potential discrepancies.
  • Assist with regular maintenance on components of projection models such as seasonality and IBNR factors.
  • Continually improving efficiency in the regularly monthly, updated budget and pricing process by continual improvement of models.
  • Assist junior analyst tasked with reporting with automation and streamlining of regular reporting process reports.
  • Assist with design, development and monitoring of open medical scheme and associated health solutions.
  • Assist with ensuring design initiatives for health solutions launch are adequately specified and costed with sufficient information provided on workings for decision makers.
  • Work closely and assure alignment with senior actuarial analyst responsible for design.
