Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Development Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Completed or inclination to complete ESG/Impact certifications (e.g., CFA ESG, SASB)
  • Knowledge of ESG and impact investing concepts
  • Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Graduate position with 1–2 years ESG analysis experience
  • Understanding of SDGs, NDP alignment, IRIS+
  • Knowledge of ESG ratings/providers (MSCI, Bloomberg, Sustainalytics)
  • Familiarity with CRISA, SASB, TCFD, GRI, CDP etc.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve, validate, reconcile, analyze, and prepare data for ESG, impact, and infrastructure reports using Excel and Power BI
  • Utilize third-party ESG data providers to conduct research and produce reports
  • Map assets to SDGs and NDP priorities
  • Collect and interpret data related to impact measurement (e.g., job creation, BEE)
  • Interpret report results and provide client commentary
  • Check reports produced by other analysts
  • Provide ad hoc sustainability analyses and outputs
  • Respond to client sustainability reporting queries
  • Assist with ad hoc requests across RisCura businesses
  • Attend industry conferences and stay updated on trends
  • Contribute to sustainability case studies and industry surveys
  • Suggest improvements for data collection, analysis, and visualization methods
  • Identify gaps in current processes and help establish quality management for ESG/Impact

About this Role

The Sustainability Reporting Analyst role is an entry-level position within RisCura’s Sustainability Team, reporting to the Head of Operations and Sustainability Team lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for compiling ESG, impact, and infrastructure reports for pension fund clients and other stakeholders. This position plays a crucial role in helping RisCura’s sustainability team and wider organization remain current with key sustainability reporting trends. A significant aspect of this role involves communicating RisCura’s thought leadership and sustainability reporting capabilities to clients and the wider public. The analyst will work with large datasets and various third-party ESG data providers to conduct research, analysis, and produce comprehensive reports. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective time management, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and quality standards. The role involves both routine daily and monthly tasks related to ESG, impact, and infrastructure reporting, as well as ad hoc research and analysis projects across various RisCura business lines. The analyst will be expected to participate in continuous learning and development, stay informed of industry trends, and contribute innovative ideas for improving current processes and methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Retrieve, validate, reconcile, analyze, and prepare data for ESG, impact, and infrastructure reports for clients using Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Utilize third-party ESG data providers to conduct research, analysis, and produce reports
  • Map assets according to various impact themes, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and National Development Plan (NDP) priorities
  • Collect and interpret data relating to impact measurement such as job creation and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) statistics
  • Interpret and analyze report results to provide commentary to clients
  • Check reports generated by fellow sustainability analysts
  • Provide ad hoc sustainability analyses and supporting output
  • Respond to sustainability reporting queries from clients
  • Assist with ad hoc requests across various RisCura business lines regarding sustainability research
  • Attend conferences and stay up to date with industry trends while representing RisCura
  • Participate in specific sustainability-related projects such as case studies on impact investing, extended research projects, and industry surveys
  • Suggest and generate ideas for the improvement of current ESG and Impact data collection, analysis, and visualization methods
  • Identify shortcomings in current work methods and processes related to sustainability reporting
  • Contribute to the establishment of quality management processes specific to ESG and Impact
  • Participate in continuous training, learning, and development sessions facilitated by the business
  • Independently pursue additional training and upskilling opportunities
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Development Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Completed or inclination to complete relevant certifications related to ESG and Impact such as CFA ESG, SASB FSA, or similar
  • Knowledge of key ESG and impact investing concepts
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Graduate position with 1-2 years of relevant experience in ESG analysis or sustainability-related fields
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), National Development Plan (NDP) alignment, and Impact Reporting Frameworks (IRIS+)
  • Knowledge of ESG ratings and providers like MSCI, Bloomberg, Sustainalytics
  • Knowledge of a wide range of sustainability-related frameworks, reporting standards, and guidelines including CRISA, SASB, TCFD, GRI, CDP
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working under pressure and working on projects
  • Awareness of industry trends regarding sustainability reporting particularly with regards to ESG, impact, and infrastructure reporting
