Purpose of the role
To exceed the annual sales budget and sell full range of surgical instruments and surgical products in a professional manner to hospitals and related healthcare professionals.
To build strong ethical business relationships with customers to ensure usage and gain greater market share at all times.
To ensure usage and gain greater market share within Pretoria.
Responsibilities
- Cover the Pretoria area with country trips to Limpopo and call on state and private hospitals.
- Promote current and new surgical products, actively seeking new business opportunities.
- Exceed annually contracted budgets and demonstrate consistent work methodology focused on achieving targets.
- Maintain and grow existing accounts and develop new “targets.”
- Ensure product placement and orders are taken post scrub within 30 days.
- Provide regular feedback on business objectives and maintain a scrub rate of 10 per week (including 2 in Urology).
- Make call and follow‑up appointments with theatre staff (room calls, follow‑up calls, business development calls, service calls) and deliver in‑service training.
- Assist with tender completion, consignment stock management, and coordination with procurement and stores.
- Adhere to administrative duties: accurate record‑keeping, timely forecasts, and submission of reports.
Management by Objectives
- Demonstrate sound planning that results in achieving sales and marketing objectives.
- Take responsibility for follow‑through of objectives and maintain personal accountability for output and performance.
- Effectively manage personal workload and support the RSM.
- Attend all business meetings and provide time‑accurate updates.
Reporting & Administration
Provide reports on progress on a continual basis, timeously prepare and submit forecasts, and attend all business meetings.
Complete all required administrative tasks accurately within deadlines, including planners, reports, leave forms, expense claims, etc.
Store accurate business information, manage consignment stock, and follow correct procedures to facilitate product entry into theatres.
Assist with completion of tenders when required and collaborate with the admin office.
Building & Managing Business Relationships
Provide excellent before and after sales service with the following activities:
- Maintain a scrub rate of 10 per week (two scrubs in Urology).
- Maintain a call rate of 10 surgeon’s room calls per week with full demonstrations.
- Weekly visits to theatre management, stores and procurement for product discussions.
- Monthly appointments with theatre matrons for product and problem‑solving discussions.
- In‑service training per week with theatre staff for 1 hour.
- Carry and maintain a uniform bag issued by the marketing department.
Financial / Job Scope
- Achievement and exceeding of sales budget.
- Implementation of sales plan and growth of existing business.
- Effectively manage expense budget allocations and consignment accounts.
- Manage customer relations at all levels in the designated territory.
General Qualification, Experience and Skills Required
- Completed Grade 12.
- Minimum of 3‑5 years surgical sales experience.
- Demonstrated client liaison experience and skill.
- Computer literate (MS Word).
- Practical experience with hospital procurement systems and processes.
- Solid organizing experience and skills.
- Own transport and valid Code 8 driver’s license.
