A leading organisation is looking to appoint a seasoned Substation Project Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of substation construction, refurbishment, and upgrade projects. This role suits someone who thrives in technical environments, leads multidisciplinary teams with confidence, and ensures every project meet stringent safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of substation projects from initiation to handover.
• Develop detailed project plans covering scope, timelines, resources, budgets, and risk mitigation.
• Oversee engineering design activities across civil, structural, electrical, and protection & control systems.
• Review and approve drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with IEC, SANS, and client standards.
• Manage procurement schedules and ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
• Drive HSEQ compliance through site inspections, safety leadership, and quality assurance.
• Build strong relationships with clients, utilities, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
• Lead engineers, site teams, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring performance, delivery, and communication.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Project Management qualification advantageous).
• 5–10 years’ experience in transmission and distribution environments, with proven substation project management experience.
• Strong technical understanding of transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and substation equipment.
• Experience delivering EPC or turnkey substation projects.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
