About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly competent Structural Engineer to join their dynamic team in Durban , focusing on the design and analysis of high-rise buildings and complex structures. This role is critical in ensuring the safety, integrity, and resilience of urban developments within the KwaZulu-Natal region. You will be involved from conceptual design through to construction support, working on iconic projects that define the city's skyline. The position requires a blend of strong analytical skills, practical design experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a project team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze structural systems for high-rise buildings, commercial complexes, and industrial facilities using advanced engineering principles.
- Perform structural calculations for various loads, including dead loads, live loads, wind, and seismic forces, ensuring compliance with South African National Standards (SANS).
- Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and technical reports using industry-standard software.
- Collaborate closely with architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, and construction teams to integrate structural designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
- Conduct site inspections during construction to monitor progress, ensure adherence to design specifications, and resolve any structural issues that arise.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural engineering materials, technologies, and building codes to implement innovative solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a specialization in structures.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in structural design, with a significant portfolio of high-rise building projects .
- Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Etabs, SAP2000, or similar.
- Strong understanding of various building materials, including steel, concrete, and masonry.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
