Job description

A boutique leading independent stockbroking and private wealth management firm is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and appropriately qualified Portfolio Manager specialising in listed equities to join its investment team. The role focuses on the discretionary management of South African and global listed share portfolios for private clients.

Duties And Responsibilities
Listed Share Portfolio management:
  • Manage and grow a discretionary book of retail high net worth client equity /share portfolios.
  • Provide tailored share investment advice, implement trades, and communicate proactively with clients.
  • Engage with internal and external referring advisors to build strong client relationships.
  • Construct and manage share portfolios in line with the firm’s investment philosophy and client mandates.
  • Actively participate in the Investment Committee, contributing to model portfolio construction and equity research.
  • Continuously research and monitor local and global listed equities and macroeconomic trends.
Reports and Compliance:
  • Review and action daily system reports.
  • Contribute to market updates and investment commentary.
  • Maintain model portfolios and assist with SARB reporting when required.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with the JSE Equities Rules, FICA, FAIS etc.
Other duties and responsibilities:
  • Support strategic initiatives and business development projects, attend and possibly present at client events, writing of articles and foster a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • JSE Equity Trader Exams – required or to be obtained shortly after successful application
  • RPE Equity Modules – required or to be obtained shortly after successful application
  • Stockbroking Board Exams / CFA Charterholder or similar advanced and related financial qualification
  • RE1 and RE5 (FAIS) – required or to be obtained shortly after successful application
  • 5+ years’ experience in financial markets, specifically listed equities - required
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills

Candidates without the Stockbroking board exams may be considered if they have strong valuation and equity portfolio construction experience, with a commitment to complete the relevant exams within defined timelines.
