Job summary

A provincial health department in South Africa is seeking a Staff Nurse to provide quality basic nursing care services under the supervision of a Professional Nurse. Job Purpose: The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has opportunities for suitably qualified and competent individuals to provide quality basic nursing care services under the supervision of a Professional Nurse within the scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and Charter of Nursing Practice.

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 1: Qualification that allows registration with the SANC as Staff Nurse; Registration with the SANC as Enrolled Nurse.
  • Grade 2: Qualification that allows registration with the SANC as Staff Nurse; Registration with the SANC as Enrolled Nurse; A minimum of 10 years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as Enrolled Nurse.
  • Grade 3: Qualification that allows registration with the SANC as Staff Nurse; Registration with the SANC as Enrolled Nurse; A minimum of 20 years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as Enrolled Nurse.
Key Performance Areas
  • Development and implementation of basic patient care plans: Ensure maintenance of patient hygiene; sustain nutritional status of patients; facilitate mobility of patients; facilitate elimination processes.
  • Provide basic clinical nursing care: Measure, interpret and record vital signs; operate all relevant apparatus and equipment; assist professional nurses with clinical procedures (i.e. administering of intramuscular injections); preparation of patients for diagnostic and surgical procedures.
  • Effective utilisation of resources: Order stock and equipment in a cost-effective manner; report loss or damage immediately; maintain professional growth / ethical standards and self-development.
  • Maintain code of conduct as required in the Public Service and by the Professional Body; seek learning opportunities, i.e. in-service training, courses.

Remuneration
  • Grade 1: R – R per annum (OSD as prescribed)
  • Grade 2: R – R per annum (OSD as prescribed)
  • Grade 3: R – R per annum (OSD as prescribed)
  • Note on remuneration: to‑employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation‑specific dispensations (OSD), the middle‑management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension‑fund contributions, etc.
  • MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed.
  • Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co‑funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
