Requirements
- Qualification in Speech Therapy or Speech Therapy & Audiology, completion of Community service. Independent practice registration with HPCSA. Current registration with the HPCSA for 2025/2026.
- Competencies: Knowledge and skills in assessment and management of communication and listening in children with hearing loss. Knowledge and skills in individual speech therapy and facilitation of support groups; family-focused intervention and development of listening and language in children with hearing loss within an Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) approach.
- Preference for additional certificate of post-graduate training in Auditory Verbal Therapy and experience in providing aural (re)habilitation to children with hearing aids and cochlear implants and experience in ECI.
- Ability to work in a team, contribute to planning, organisation and coordination of a clinical service, engage in solution-based problem solving, display empathy for patients, promote advocacy and facilitate holistic treatment. Applicant should be prepared to undergo medical surveillance as an inherent job requirement.
Duties
- Provide a complete package of care to children and teenagers with hearing loss, including assessment of communication and listening, counselling, creation of joint intervention goals with the family, assist in audiological management, provision of individual and group therapy, facilitation of support groups, report‑writing, teacher training.
- Provision of intervention services in accordance with SACIG cochlear implant quality standards, best practice guidelines and engage in clinical research.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team within professional boundaries, engage in mentoring and audits, comply with Performance Management processes, participate in departmental teambuilding and projects, adhere to infection control procedures, assist with maintaining accreditation requirements, participate in departmental research projects.
