Placements24 is recruiting a Specialized Cleaning Technician for Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will maintain cleanliness and safety of port facilities, including cargo areas, jetties, and welfare buildings, while following strict HSE protocols.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in industrial cleaning, preferably port or heavy industry.
• Experience with high-pressure washing and degreasing.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to work at heights and in varying weather.
• Valid driver's license and port access permits is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform specialized cleaning of port infrastructure, including jetties, cranes, and loading bays.
• Execute high-pressure washing, degreasing, and removal of industrial contaminants from surfaces.
• Manage and dispose of industrial waste and debris according to environmental regulations.
• Operate specialized cleaning equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
• Conduct routine inspections of cleaning equipment and report any defects or maintenance needs.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies relevant to port operations.
• Work at heights and in various environmental conditions, adhering to safety harnesses and procedures.
• Maintain the cleanliness of administrative buildings and welfare facilities within the port complex.
• Assist in emergency spill response and cleanup operations as required.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and operational working environment in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

About the Role

Our client, a major operator of port facilities, is seeking a skilled and robust Specialized Cleaning Technician for their operations in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This critical role involves maintaining the cleanliness and safety of a unique and demanding environment, including cargo handling areas, ship exteriors (where applicable and safe), dockside structures, and associated buildings. The ideal candidate will be experienced in industrial cleaning techniques, comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions, and possess a strong commitment to safety protocols specific to port operations. You will be responsible for specialized cleaning tasks, waste management, and ensuring the facility meets stringent environmental and operational standards. We are looking for an individual who is reliable, physically fit, and possesses a proactive approach to identifying and resolving cleaning challenges in a dynamic industrial setting.

Requirements

• Proven experience in industrial cleaning, preferably in a port, marine, or heavy industry environment.
• Demonstrable experience with high-pressure washing, degreasing, and specialized cleaning techniques.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to industrial sites.
• Ability to work effectively in physically demanding conditions, including exposure to weather elements and heights.
• Experience operating machinery such as forklifts or aerial work platforms is advantageous.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain port-specific access permits.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting and coordination.
• Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as dictated by operational needs.
• Must be medically fit for demanding work.
• Residency or ability to commute reliably to Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal .
