Our client, a dedicated family residing in the vibrant Cape Town, Western Cape, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Special Needs Childcare Specialist. This role focuses on providing tailored support and engaging activities for their child who has specific developmental needs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with parents and therapists to create a structured and encouraging environment that promotes the child's growth and independence. The position offers flexibility and requires a deep understanding of various special needs interventions and a patient, empathetic approach. The role is based in a family home in Cape Town, Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized care and educational plans based on the child's specific needs and developmental goals.
• Provide direct care, supervision, and support, ensuring the child's safety and well-being at all times.
• Facilitate therapeutic activities and exercises as recommended by specialists and therapists.
• Assist with personal care routines, including feeding, hygiene, and mobility as required.
• Engage the child in stimulating and age-appropriate activities designed to enhance cognitive, motor, and social skills.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of the child's progress, activities, and any observed changes.
• Communicate effectively with parents, therapists, and other relevant professionals.
• Adapt activities and environments to meet the child's changing needs.
• Coordinate with external therapists and educators to ensure a consistent approach to care.

Requirements

• Proven experience working with children with special needs (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, developmental delays).
• Relevant qualifications in Special Education, Child Psychology, or a related field.
• Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and intervention strategies.
• Excellent observational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for child development.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
• A clean criminal record check.
• Reside in or be willing to commute to Cape Town, Western Cape.
• References from previous relevant roles.
