Introduction
The Spare Parts Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, performance, and operational control of spare parts inventory across national and regional distribution centres (RDCs).
This role ensures optimal stock availability, cost efficiency, and alignment with business objectives to support service networks and customer satisfaction in the commercial vehicle sector.
Duties & Responsibilities
- 🗂 Inventory Strategy & Performance Management – Define and execute business objectives for parts inventory aligned with after‑sales and operational goals. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as fill rate, inventory turnover, and aging stock. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory accuracy and responsiveness.
- 🧾 Inventory Modelling & Optimization – Develop and refine inventory models based on demand forecasting, vehicle lifecycle, and service patterns. Apply statistical and predictive tools to balance stock levels against service requirements and cost targets. Collaborate with technical and procurement teams to align inventory models with parts availability and lead times.
- 📶 Inventory Planning & RDC Management – Formulate short‑ and long‑term inventory plans across central and regional warehouses. Optimize stock allocation, reorder points, and safety stock parameters to ensure service readiness. Oversee RDC inventory operations, including inbound/outbound logistics, stock audits, and replenishment cycles.
- 🕓 Cross‑Functional Coordination – Work closely with procurement, logistics, technical support, and finance teams to ensure cohesive inventory strategies. Support product launches, recalls, and service campaigns with proactive inventory planning. Liaise with OEMs and suppliers to manage parts lifecycle, obsolescence, and substitution strategies.
- 📅 Systems & Data Management – Ensure integrity of inventory data across ERP and warehouse management systems. Lead system enhancements and reporting tools to improve visibility and decision‑making. Analyze consumption trends and service data to inform stocking strategies and budget planning.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Senior Certificate or certificate/diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or related field. 5–8 years’ experience in inventory management within the commercial vehicle or automotive industry. Strong understanding of South African import regulations and parts distribution networks. Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory planning tools. Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; experience with forecasting software preferred.
