Job summary

Performit Personnel is seeking a qualified and compassionate Sonographer to join our diagnostic imaging team in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will perform high-quality ultrasound examinations, produce accurate diagnostic images, and provide exceptional patient care while collaborating with radiologists and referring physicians.

The ideal applicant will hold a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Radiography with an ultrasound qualification, be HPCSA-registered

Qualifications

  • Qualified Sonographer with HPCSA registration and annual practising certificate.
  • 2–3 years of experience in general ultrasound; obstetric/gynecological, vascular, breast or MSK is advantageous.
  • Proficient with ultrasound equipment and PACS.
  • Experience in patient care and collaboration with radiologists and referring physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures by explaining the process and addressing concerns.
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic images in line with established protocols.
  • Recognise abnormal findings and communicate urgent observations to the radiologist.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and maintain examination records.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment; report faults when necessary.
  • Adhere to radiation-free imaging safety standards and infection control.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and CPD.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centred care; maintain professionalism.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, medical practitioners, nursing staff, and administrative teams.

Job description

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Sonographer to join our diagnostic imaging team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound examinations, producing accurate diagnostic images, and providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will work closely with radiologists, referring physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.

National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Radiography with Ultrasound qualification or equivalent recognised qualification.

Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Sonographer.

Valid Annual Practising Certificate.

Minimum 2–3 years' experience as a qualified Sonographer preferred.

Experience in general ultrasound imaging is essential.

Experience in obstetric, gynaecological, vascular, breast, or MSK ultrasound will be advantageous.

Proficient in ultrasound imaging equipment and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, professional standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and continuous professional development.
  • Provide compassionate, patient‑centred care while maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, medical practitioners, nursing staff, and administrative teams.
