Job description

Cisco Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world.

The world's leading enterprises use our unified security and observability platform to keep their digital systems secure and reliable.

While customers love our technology, it's our people that make Splunk stand out as an amazing career destination and why we've won so many awards as a best place to work.

If you become a Splunker, we want your whole, authentic self, what we call your "million data points".

So bring your work experience, problem‑solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you.

This is an opportunity to work at a company that is changing the way information supports business decisions.

Join us on our journey as Splunk Solutions Engineer for South Africa, and enjoy a culture of inclusiveness, disruption, and fun while selling smart and winning big.

Role Details

You will technically own, discover, position, prove and deliver the key technical elements of a sales cycle to achieve a "technical win" within large‑scale and sophisticated customer environments.

Communicate styles, technology skills and experiences, and soft skills and people skills to develop positive relationships with both your sales colleagues and your customers in South Africa.

You will be an advocate and ambassador for Splunk through your professional social media, industry and marketing events, and supporting pipeline generation activities.

You will collaborate with your customer contacts, and build them into Splunk champions by helping them understand how Splunk can help them tackle some of their most ambitious problems and achieve their objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to demonstrate Splunk products and services to customers on site, remotely via webinar sessions, and at field events such as conferences and trade shows.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships throughout the sales cycle, not only with our customer's technical staff.
  • Willing to travel 50% to visit prospects and customers, and engage in onsite customer work when required.
  • Experience responding to functional and technical parts of RFIs/RFPs is also relevant.
  • Self‑motivated with a proven track record in technical software sales and knowledge of technology.
  • Strong presentation skills and communicate clearly and professionally via emails, RFPs, and reports.
  • Ability to be organised and analytical, eliminating sales obstacles using creative and adaptive approaches.
  • Answer technical building questions plus address customer concerns to a successful outcome.
  • Should have experience with discovering pain and resolving value with customers.
  • Work closely with the presales team and presales management to develop and continually improve working practices and presales processes.
Do These Characteristics Describe You?
  • Curiosity: You tend to want to understand the why of a scenario as much as the what and have the skills to discover whether the first response to the question really describes the situation or its implications.
  • Sales‑y: Self‑awareness to know or discover where you are in the sale and a sense of ownership to do the things in your control to drive a sale forward.
  • Technically Astute: Enjoy the detail, even if you don't always need to express it. Keep up to date knowledge of the technologies and solutions that businesses use to be successful.
  • A Communicator: Demonstrate and convince prospects at all levels on the capabilities and value of solutions. Tell a great story of how other customers achieved success.
  • Communicates openly with colleagues.
  • A People Person: Enjoy meeting new people, and maintain a network of contacts within your accounts. Feel comfortable introducing yourself to a new customer prospect and quickly build rapport.
  • Confidence: Not arrogant – have confidence that comes from the knowledge that your product is rock solid, and transmit this confidence to a customer.
  • Business Savvy: Understand how businesses are organized, how they achieve their desired results, and what challenges they face.
  • A Growth Mindset: Build in time to develop your skills, knowledge, experience or capabilities.
  • Looks beyond the current opportunity towards the wider set of opportunities that could exist in a prospect.
  • A Collaborator: Understand that selling is a team game, so spend time developing with colleagues and partners to achieve success – for all parties.
  • Fun: Getting the job done and enjoying & generating fun don't need to be mutually exclusive.
Technical Requirements
  • Cloud: The benefits, pitfalls and technical considerations of moving from on‑premise to cloud‑based infrastructures, or how born‑in‑the‑cloud companies operate.
  • Travel around 50% in South Africa.
  • Cloud Certification.
  • Security / SecOps / DevOps knowledge.
  • Understanding of modern and traditional architecture.
  • Experience writing code/scripting to automate common tasks (Python, Bash, Ruby, etc.).
Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or similar course of study – equivalent professional experience will be considered.

Certifications

CISSP / ITIL or equivalent certifications.
