About the Role

Boston South Africa is seeking a highly experienced Solution Design and Implementation Engineer to join our dynamic and fast‑paced team.

The ideal candidate will be based in either Cape Town or Johannesburg and will work remotely, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality, scalable, and efficient technology solutions tailored to our clients' needs.

Functions

A Solution Design and Implementation Engineer functions as a technical / support resource for sales, marketing, design, research and development activities within a technology‑oriented organisation.

Functions may be office based but also at customer / installation sites.

A Solution Design and Implementation Engineer will work alongside colleagues (or individually) under the supervision of a Senior FAE, carrying out the tasks delegated to them from their line manager and / or department head.

General Responsibilities
  • Initiate, facilitate and drive various business problem‑solving and process re‑engineering projects in collaboration with clients.
  • Form new or innovative designs, make prototypes and demonstrate the application to existing and potential users.
  • Generate / manage leads on technical requirements from various sources and deal with potential customers.
  • Support customised product / equipment design and development for customers, provide technical assistance and perform requirement analysis.
  • Assist with internal and external education and knowledge transfer involving both internal employees and external partners.
Skills and Experience
  • Provide technical support, including presentations and design modifications.
  • Be familiar with technical product specifications and be able to convincingly point out the specific technical merits of a product.
  • Demonstrate good customer‑relation skills and be able to back up technical claims with computer simulations, engineering calculations, research papers, data sheets and company‑competitor reports.
  • Show experience that differentiates a Field Applications Engineer from a Junior FAE.
Preferred Skills
  • Field experience or hands‑on practice or knowledge of multi‑disciplinary server systems.
  • Prior experience working with Supermicro based server solutions and / or other Boston focused products – NVIDIA AI, Mellanox Networking.
  • A broad knowledge of Windows Server and Linux‑based operating systems.
  • A working knowledge of Virtualisation & SAN technologies.
  • Experience working with TCP / IP networking, switches, NIC’s and routers.
  • A clean, detailed and clear documentation practitioner.
  • Well versed with theoretical IT principles and their applications in real life.
  • Comfortable in dealing with complex, abstract or vague problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficient in latest MS‑Office tools, web‑usage and web‑based tools.
  • Ability and affinity to respond quickly.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge & experience of server configuration and manufacturing.
  • Exposure to HPC & Clustering configuration / tools.
Education & Technical Qualifications
  • Preferred Graduate / Post‑Graduate in any engineering or science discipline.
  • BE / BSc / MCA, etc or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Product specific qualifications such as Microsoft MCSE / MCSA / MCITP, Redhat RHCE, Cisco CCNA etc.
  • Additional technical and professional credentials relating to afore‑mentioned skills would be added advantages, such as MCP, A+, Linux+, VCP etc.
