Job description

Our client in the Renewable Energy industry is currently looking for Solar Technicians, in Observatory, Cape Town.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assessing locations to ensure they are suitable for solar panels.
  2. Measuring up areas for installation.
  3. Adjusting building surfaces so panels fit and are adequately supported.
  4. Installing and maintaining solar panels on business premises both commercial and industrial.
  5. Connecting solar panels to an electrical system.
  6. Grounding electrical equipment and checking wiring.
  7. Performing maintenance checks and fixing solar panels.
  8. Diagnose and replace PV panels.
  9. Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace cables, cable inter-connections, PV junction/string boxes, connectors and fuses in PV systems.
  10. Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace transformers.
  11. Maintain solar/diesel Hybrid system, including batteries.
  12. Apply root cause analysis techniques on all major and reoccurring faults.
  13. Investigate technical failures and prepare formal technical report.

Requirements:
  1. Have a good understanding and perception of integrated systems and how to apply effective fault finding techniques in such a system.
  2. Very good written and oral communication skills.
  3. Well-organized and responsive in all communications including clear, concise e-mails; adept at writing technical reports and policies.
  4. Good team player; able to balance team and individual responsibilities.
  5. Able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  6. Able to manage stress and high-pressure situations.
  7. Able to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and work effectively under limited supervision.
  8. Minimum of an N3 (or NQF equivalent) with electrical subjects; N6 or ND) or NQF equivalent) is preferred.
  9. Red Seal and Wireman’s certification preferred.
  10. Minimum 3 years’ renewable energy solar EPC experience.
  11. Working knowledge of PV plants is an advantage.
  12. Experience in switching LV, MV and HV systems.
  13. Working knowledge of power system protection.
  14. Able to read and interpret single line diagrams and schematics.
  15. Code B driver’s license required.

Remuneration:
  1. R25 000 - R32000 per month.
