Acuity Consultants is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (AI Enabled) in Joburg to lead AI-powered development and modernise high-volume payment platforms. You will drive architectural decisions, design scalable solutions and mentor developers, using C#/.NET 8 and cutting-edge AI techniques.

You will design, implement and deploy AI-powered features, pushing production-ready AI across engineering teams while shaping practical standards for AI-enabled development across the organisation.

Formación

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Strong C# and .NET 8 development skills.
• Proven experience deploying AI-powered applications into production.
• Hands-on with LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector search and context engineering.
• Strong system design and architecture experience.
• Experience leading high-volume system modernisation or re-platforming.
• Experience with relational, NoSQL and vector databases.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to combine hands-on AI development with the modernisation of complex, high-volume payment platforms within a leading FinTech business. You'll take ownership of challenging engineering projects, influence technical architecture and help shape how AI is adopted across engineering teams.

This Senior Software Engineer position is based in Joburg, paying R1.6-1.75m PA.

The business is investing in modernising its technology platforms and integrating AI into its products and engineering processes, creating an environment where experienced engineers can contribute to significant technical projects and influence how software is developed.

THE ROLE:

As a Senior Software Engineer (AI Enabled), you'll lead the design and development of AI-powered solutions while modernising the systems that support the company's digital payment platforms.

A key focus will be re-platforming existing systems, taking ownership of architectural decisions and developing scalable solutions capable of supporting high volumes of payment transactions.

You'll design and build AI-powered functionality using LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings and vector search, taking solutions beyond experimentation and into production environments.

Working primarily with C#/.NET, you'll be involved throughout the development lifecycle, from architecture and technical design through to hands-on development, deployment and production support.

You'll also help establish how AI is used across the engineering function, introducing practical standards for AI-assisted development, improving engineering processes and mentoring other developers.

THE REQUIREMENTS:

• 7+ years’ software engineering experience, including technical leadership
• Strong C# and .NET 8 development skills
