Main purpose of the role
The Senior Utilities Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate utility consumption tracking, billing, and cost recovery across FPG properties.
Key Performance Areas
- Capturing and verifying of council / municipal bills
- Verifying billing details and supply meter reading data
- Ensuring accurate and timely processing of billing data
- Reviewing recovery ratios
- Populating of various report per buildingData Analysis
- Collect, validate, and analyse utility data from tenants, municipalities, and service providers.
- Identify anomalies in consumption and billing, trends, or inefficiencies.
- Provide actionable recommendations to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
- Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reporting metrics to track portfolio-wide performance.Utilities query resolutions
- Investigate and resolve tenant, municipal, or service provider utility queries.
- Liaise with property management, finance, and technical teams to ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain records of all queries, resolutions, and follow-up actions.
- Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the Head of Utilities for action.
- Support to the Head of Utilities
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making.
- Prepare reports for management meetings and presentations.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of portfolio-wide utility costs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and sustainability initiatives.
- Filing / Database Management
- Maintain organized utility records, including invoices, meter readings, contracts, and correspondence.
- Ensure databases are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible for reporting and audits.
- Monitor data quality and take corrective action where discrepancies are identified.
Minimum education & qualifications / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Behavioral competencies
\Matric / Grade 12
- BCom Degree or Diploma in Chemical or Electrical engineering
- 5+ years' relevant experience in utilities management within the energy services or property management sector.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
- Utility management software and smart metering systems.
- Electricity, water, and waste management principles in multi-tenanted properties.
- Renewable energy systems (solar PV, battery storage) and energy efficiency concepts.
- Financial literacy : utility billing, budgets, cost recovery strategies, Eskom tariffs, and municipal rates.
- Data analytics : ability to interpret complex utility data and produce actionable insights.
- South African municipal regulations, tariffs, and compliance requirements.
- Analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Stakeholder management and influencing skills (tenants, service providers, internal teams).
