Purpose of the Job

This role will lead and manage all accounting activities relating to Trade Receivables, Trade Payables, Ledger Control, and Outsourced Partners, ensuring financial integrity, compliance with IFRS standards, and delivery of strategic financial insights that enable sound business decision-making.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver a strategic partnership to the business whilst ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and alignment with strategic business goals.
  • Ensure that transactions reflect IFRS compliance and standards.
  • Provide robust financial control to optimize performance for decision making.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the business.
  • Seek new opportunities for the business to become efficiency focused, i.e. agile decisions, automation of processes, digital footprint opportunities.
  • Optimise utilisation of Outsource Partners.
  • Responsible for ensuring process improvements and effectiveness.
  • Responsible for interactions with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain effective controls systems.
  • Provide business insights to enable business decision making.
  • Manage and oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and Outsourced Partners.
  • Ensure robust financial controls, compliance with IFRS, and effective risk management.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and digital efficiencies.
  • Provide financial insights and act as a strategic advisor to the business.
  • Manage and oversee receivable inputs and month-end close processes; review and maintain acceptable debtor recovery ratios; resolve outstanding claims within 90 days and monitor unresolved queries.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly AR reports and ECL process in line with IFRS 9 and Cell C requirements.
  • Review and maintain accuracy of the creditors' ledger; review outstanding creditors ledger and ensure liabilities are correctly reflected.
  • Ensure all AP stack ups are complete and all balances are adequately reflected.
  • Review the Inventory Accrual report on a weekly, monthly basis and resolve long outstanding items in a timely manner.
  • Ensure month-end closure, reconciliations, and accrual reports are completed on time; resolve outstanding liabilities and inventory accrual issues promptly.
  • Develop, implement, and update accounting policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Drive process optimisation and ensure IT alignment.
  • Lead and coach team members, fostering continuous improvement.
  • Compare actual vs. budget performance and provide business insights.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements; prepare notes to financial statements and ensure closure of all accounts.
  • Monitor IFRS compliance and adoption of new accounting standards; manage and review the month end close out process and ensure timelines are adhered to.
  • Review and approve journals affecting AP / AR; ensure integrity of the trial balance and reconciliations.
  • Review financial reports, identify trends, and provide insights.
  • Prepare management packs, annual financial statements, and ad-hoc reports.
  • Review the trial balance as well as all reconciliations of all general ledger control accounts related to AP and AR to ensure data integrity and accuracy for reporting purposes.
  • Lead all internal and external audits, finance-related projects, and oversee outsourced services; ensure risks are mitigated and timelines met.
  • Oversee related party reporting, confirmations, and netting processes.
  • Manage outsourced partners: set KPIs, monitor performance, and optimise scope.
  • Set departmental objectives and evaluate staff performance; lead and motivate staff to effectively deliver objectives.
  • Provide an advisory, support and mentorship function to enable staff to grow within their career; identify training needs and coach staff.
  • Maintain labour relations action as required; uphold HR policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Honors (Accounting) Degree with Articles or equivalent qualification in Finance.
  • Overall, 8 – 10 years' experience, of which 5-8 years post article experience in all areas of accounting.
  • At least 3-5 years leadership experience.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager in Telecommunications industry an added advantage.
