Bilnor Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic for on-site maintenance of diamond or RC drill rigs in a mining environment. The role requires leadership of junior technicians and hands-on expertise in diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.

The ideal candidate will have a trade qualification, strong diagnostic skills and the ability to read drawings. Willingness to work rotation shifts and travel to remote locations is essential.

Formación

• Matric or NQF 4 equivalence with Maths and Science preferred.
• Trade-tested Diesel/Millwright with N2/N3 certificate (Red Seal).
• Valid driver’s licence (Code 08 / EB).
• Medical fitness certificate for mining industry.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain and repair diamond or RC drill rigs on site.
• Lead or supervise junior mechanics and assistants.
• Perform diesel engine diagnostics, repair and overhauls.
• Service hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems, including fault-finding.
• Read technical drawings and update maintenance logs.

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) or NQF Level 4 equivalent, with Maths and Science preferred
• Trade-tested Diesel Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or Millwright (Red Seal), with a N2 or N3 technical certificate
• Valid driver's licence (Code 08 / EB minimum)
• Valid medical certificate of fitness (mining industry standard)

Experience

• Minimum 5 years' post-trade experience maintaining and repairing diamond or RC drill rigs
• At least 2 years in a senior, supervisory or lead hand role
• Proven field experience (surface and/or underground)
• Hands‑on experience with major rig brands.

• Diesel engine diagnostics, repair and overhauls
• Hydraulic systems: pumps, valves, cylinders and fault‑finding
• Pneumatic systems, compressors and boosters
• Electrical fault‑finding, including basic electronics and sensors
• Drill head, rod handler, winch, mast and carrier maintenance
• Welding and fabrication (basic to intermediate)
• Planned maintenance, breakdown repair and component replacement

Safety and compliance

• Working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and site SHEQ standards
• Ability to complete risk assessments, JSAs and isolation or lock‑out procedures
• Valid mine safety induction (or willingness to complete it)

General requirements

• Ability to read technical drawings, manuals and parts catalogues
• Basic computer literacy for maintenance logs and reports
• Able to mentor and train junior mechanics and assistants
• Willingness to work rotational shifts and remote locations
• Good communication skills in English
