The Role
A Site Supervisor oversees daily operations at construction or project sites, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with plans and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Supervision – Oversee and monitor site contracts, ensuring adherence to the latest revisions of applicable Employer’s policies and procedures.
- Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance – Ensure all personnel and activities comply with relevant health, safety and environmental standards and procedures (Power and Legislative).
- Conduct safety risk assessments for high‑risk plant operations.
- Workforce Monitoring – Track and report Contractor working hours, manpower numbers, including sub‑contractors and visitors on site, and overtime to ensure compliance with project specifications and requirements.
- Housekeeping Practices – Ensure good housekeeping practices are followed and maintained by all personnel on site.
- Reporting – Communicate and report to the Site Manager, Project Manager, SHEQ Manager and Senior Advisors (Safety / Environment).
- SHE Compliance – Complete daily SHE checklists and database forms to ensure compliance with SHE requirements.
- Maintain all necessary SHE forms and records.
- Incident Reporting – Report all incidents to the Site Manager, Project Manager and SHEQ Manager.
- Daily Task Planning – Plan daily tasks according to the site programme, Contractor’s schedule and approved method statements.
- Progress Monitoring – Monitor and report the Contractor’s progress in terms of the approved schedule.
- Daily Reporting – Provide all daily reports, documents, photos, labour and equipment information.
- Method Statement Communication – Communicate approved method statements to all role players and ensure work is performed accordingly.
- Contract Familiarity – Be familiar with contract documents, drawings, schedules, specifications and method statements to monitor and report on construction works in terms of quality, time and cost.
- Work Inspection – Inspect work done on site according to specifications and instructions and re‑measure where required.
- Equipment Inspection – Inspect the Contractor’s equipment in their presence and observe the work process.
Qualifications and Experience
- Electrical / Mechanical / Civil National Technical Diploma (College / TVET College) – 7 years in an Electrical / Mechanical / Civil Engineering environment.
- Electrical / Mechanical / Civil National Diploma – 3 years in an Electrical / Mechanical / Civil Engineering environment.
- B-Tech / B-Eng (Electrical / Mechanical / Civil).
- BSc in Electrical / Mechanical / Civil – 2 years in an Electrical / Mechanical / Civil Engineering environment.
- Previous experience of site management on Power Lines and Substation Construction projects will be advantageous.
