Qualifications

Job description
Site Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Lead

Location: Kwazulu Natal, South Africa

As our new Site SHE Lead, you will champion a proactive culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility across the Scott Bader PTY site. Working closely with the Group SHE Director and Site Director, you’ll ensure that all activities meet both legislative and company standards through the consistent application, monitoring, and improvement of protective and preventative measures. You’ll play a key role in engaging colleagues at every level, building awareness, ownership, and confidence through effective communication, training, and support. Your leadership will help strengthen stakeholder trust, minimise risks and operational losses, and promote a safe, sustainable, and compliant working environment for everyone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead SHE initiatives on-site, including Gemba walks, risk assessments, and safety improvement planning to drive a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensure full compliance with Group standards and all relevant municipal, provincial, and national legislation.
  • Provide expert SHE guidance, monitoring, auditing, and reporting on key metrics while supporting process safety management and incident investigations.
  • Deliver and coordinate effective SHE training, contractor safety management, and environmental compliance activities (e.g. ISO 14001, waste, and emissions).
  • Champion continuous improvement by challenging unsafe practices, promoting behavioural safety, and fostering a culture of accountability and care.
Qualifications
  • 5–7 years’ SHE experience in a chemical manufacturing environment or equivalent.
  • Hold a formal Chemical Engineering or Chemistry qualification and be NEBOSH/SAISOH and ISO 9001/14001 certified. SAMTRAC and ISO 45001 certification is an advantage.
  • Skilled in developing Standard Operating Procedures and conducting incident investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment principles, including hazardous chemical assessments.
  • Proven ability to deliver effective SHE training across operational, laboratory, and office settings.
