Role summary

We are seeking a talented Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our growing, innovative team. This role is ideal for an experienced, curious, and ambitious professional who thrives on ensuring reliability, scalability, and uptime across distributed sites. You will play a critical role in supporting and optimising our Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and associated infrastructure, while having the freedom to drive improvements and introduce new ideas.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the uptime, stability, and reliability of our centralised and on-site Laboratory Information Systems.
• Provide input into and support system architecture design to improve scalability and resilience.
• Configure and maintain hardware components to ensure system availability and support new site rollouts.
• Deliver remote support across multiple sites, including after-hours and weekend support on a structured shift/standby basis.
• Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents, applying automation and scripting where possible to improve processes.

Experience, fit and qualifications

Essential technical skills:

• Relevant tertiary education, and Matric (or equivalent).
• Python programming (mandatory).
• Strong knowledge of Linux system administration and networking.
• Cloud experience, preferably AWS.
• Experience with databases.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies (Angular, HTML, CSS).
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Previous experience in healthcare IT, laboratory systems, or mission-critical environments.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

• Willingness to participate in an after-hours support roster.
