About the Opportunity
Our client a leading organisation in the fuel and convenience retail sector is seeking a hands‑on disciplined and performance‑driven Site Manager to oversee daily operations at their Mdantsane branch.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced operational leader with a proven ability to manage retail or forecourt sites efficiently while driving profitability, safety and customer satisfaction.
Role Overview
The Site Manager will be responsible for managing the day‑to‑day operations of the site including forecourt and store management, stock and cash control, staff leadership and compliance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organisational skills, operational discipline and a customer‑first approach ensuring that the site runs smoothly, profitably and in line with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Forecourt and Store Operations: Oversee all forecourt and convenience store operations to ensure readiness and functionality. Maintain site cleanliness, presentation and safety standards. Manage staff rosters, daily briefings and operational targets. Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely fuel and stock deliveries. Monitor equipment, signage and lighting for optimal operation.
- Cash and Financial Management: Supervise cash handling reconciliations and banking activities. Ensure compliance with financial control policies and audit requirements. Identify and resolve cash variances promptly. Maintain accountability at cashier and back‑office system levels.
- Stock and Inventory Control: Manage stock ordering, receiving, GRV capturing and variance controls. Monitor sales trends, minimum order quantities and wastage. Conduct scheduled stock counts and supplier reconciliations. Ensure accurate stock management and reporting.
- Staff Leadership and Development: Lead, train and motivate the team to achieve site performance goals. Manage recruitment, onboarding and performance appraisals. Maintain discipline, grooming and attendance standards. Promote a professional and customer‑focused culture.
- Customer Service and Experience: Ensure high standards of service delivery and customer satisfaction. Address customer complaints professionally and promptly. Maintain store presentation and queue management. Drive upselling promotions and loyalty programme initiatives.
- Health, Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety and environmental regulations. Conduct regular safety and hygiene audits. Maintain emergency and evacuation procedures. Promote a culture of safety awareness among staff.
- Reporting and Administration: Prepare accurate daily, weekly and monthly operational reports. Verify wet stock data, ATG readings and DTS reports. Reconcile cash pump readings and POS data. Monitor profitability, staff hours and expense variances. Maintain organised and audit‑ready administrative records.
- Cross‑Functional Coordination: Liaise with suppliers, maintenance teams and franchisor representatives. Support marketing campaigns, in‑store promotions and improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
- Diploma or Degree in Retail Management, Business or Accounting (advantageous)
- Minimum of 35 years experience as a Site or Retail Manager (fuel, FMCG or quick‑service sector preferred)
- Proficient in POS, GRV, wet stock, ATG and cash‑up systems (Stowe or similar)
- Strong leadership and people management experience
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving and time‑management skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office, Excel)
- Valid driver’s licence
