Job summary

Ad Hoc Client is seeking a Site - Environmental Officer to support renewable energy projects across South Africa. You will implement EMPs, monitor environmental performance, and ensure compliance with permits and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Site Safety Manager, you will conduct site inspections, lead inductions, and coordinate with subcontractors to uphold best environmental practices on multi-location teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in environmental management on large-scale construction or renewable energy projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently on a dynamic site environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain EMPs in compliance with local legislation and SHEQ policies.
• Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor waste, water use, dust, noise, erosion, and biodiversity on site.
• Ensure proper waste segregation, storage, transport, and disposal on site.
• Lead environmental inductions and toolbox talks for workers and contractors.
• Maintain environmental records, checklists, reports, and monitoring data.

Reporting directly to the Site Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our solar project sites achieve the highest standards of environmental compliance. Duties & Responsibilities

Implement and maintain site-specific Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) in compliance with local legislation and the company’s SHEQ policies.

• Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits on site to identify non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor key environmental aspects, including waste management, water use, dust suppression, noise, erosion control, and biodiversity protection.
• Ensure appropriate waste segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal practices on site.
• Assist with environmental incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective and preventive measures.
• Deliver environmental inductions and toolbox talks to site workers, contractors, and visitors.
• Support site teams in applying environmentally responsible work methods and procedures.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date environmental records, checklists, inspection reports, and monitoring data.
• Prepare and submit environmental compliance reports to the Site Safety Manager as required.
• Engage subcontractors to ensure their activities meet the company's environmental requirements.
• Promote environmental awareness and best practices among site personnel and contractors.
• Assist in the planning and execution of environmental monitoring programs and liaise with external specialists where necessary.
• Ensure the solar project site complies with relevant environmental regulations, permits, and stakeholder commitments.

• Relevant diploma or bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Industry-recognized environmental training or auditing qualifications are desired.
• 5+ years in a similar environmental role, preferably on large-scale construction or renewable energy projects.
